December 29, 2010 - 5km

Woke up to the face of the saddest puppy on the planet who only wanted to go for a run. So up I got and went for a run. We did the mid-loop which is about 5km. It was just above freezing, the sun was shining and a light layer of frost on the ground. All in All not a bad morning for running!

View from the path:
Deer! Darty got to chase a few deer and therefore was in his glee!

December 27, 2010 - 10km

The last time I was in Florida was when I started this insanity to run a marathon. And now with just two weeks left and over a hundred posts, I finally feel ready to do this. Here's hoping the weather cooperates as, although it's nicer than at home, it's still chilly. I ran 10km this morning. I took Darty out for 2.5km and then dropped him back at home (it was a small loop) and then headed back out and did the full loop all the way around my parents gated community. It actually felt weird not having hills. I didn't miss them, I just ended up running faster than normal and therefore felt it more in the end. My legs are sore now, a couple hours later.

View from the path:
Big houses followed by bigger houses. It's crazy here, but beautiful too! I met two french bulldogs who were about 6months old, sooooo cute. That was about it for other people. That's the one thing about running here, no cars and well, no people either. Some of the houses are still decked out in their Christmas best and are very impressive for sure. It started out quite cold and wished I had my gloves, but as the sun came out it got warmer for sure. Not warm enough to warrent taking my jacket off, but comfortable. The last two runs at Disney, both halves, were frigid and unseasonably cold. Much like this year is turning out to be, so fingers crossed for a colder run. Not sure I could run the 42.2km in 70 degrees. Much more walking for sure!

The Music: iPod all charged up and the first song spoke volumes:
Long Road to Ruin - Foo Fighters!!! made me smile
Crawling - Linkin Park
Alejandro - Lady GaGa
Hold Me Now - Thompson Twins
Halo/Walking on Sunshine - Glee
Eyes on Fire - Blue Foundation
So Happy I Could Die - Lady GaGa
SOS - Rihanna
Defying Gravity - Glee
Misery Business - Paramore
Take a Look Around - Limp Bizkit
Ulysses - Franz Ferdinand
Drops of Jupiter - Train
Savior - Rise Against
Stronger - Britney Spears (I know but for running it's a good song)
Teeth - Lady GaGa

To Sir with Love - Glee
Meet Me on the Equinox - Death Cab for Cutie

December 25th, 2010 - Merry Christmas

What a better way to celebrate Christmas than with a 3km run???? I'll tell you, anything! Let's do a little math shall we, two days in a car plus christmas eve dinner with a little less than a bottle of red wine plus getting up to the wild and crazy that is Chrismas morning with two little girls plus greasy pizza for lunch then add in a 3km run in (not so use to) 70 degree weather equals a very slow, very clunkly, slighly nauseated run. Aw good times!

View from the path:
Well not alot because most are spending it indoors with family. Rob went to play golf with my father, so I went for this ever so graceful run :) The girls are enthralled with their new toys! I did see a couple kids out on their new toys, a little girl was out driving her mini vespa that was completely pink! I also saw an Osprey bird perched on a mailbox, took me a minute to realize it was real. Holy crap they are big birds.

I also ran on Weds of last week but forgot to post about it.

The Music:
iPod dead, so no music and oh how it would have helped!

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you all have an awesome time with family and friends.!~

December 21, 2010 - hardest 3km ever

Today was the run after the 32km and lets just say my legs screamed the entire time. I went to the gym like a good little running soldier and got on the treadmill. OMG it hurt. I ran nice and slow and for 2 miles!!!! Never thought 3km/2miles would be so hard. Have I mentioned how much it hurt.

OMG it hurt@!

December 19, 2010 - 32km YES I CAN

I'm a firm believer in positive vibes and I got that in spades from so many of my awesome friends. Along with this blog, I've been using Facebook to keep myself motivated. With the belief that if I announce my runs than I've made my commitment! Even though I'm never really sure I can do what I say I'm attempting, the responses and the encouragments makes me more determined and focused. Yesterday was no exception. Thank you to my friends and family who believe in what I'm attempting to do. Today's run of 32km or 20miles was my longest training run ever and when I had doubt on my run I remembered all of the positive comments made to me that I kept on going. Especially the last 10km. It became a series of small 100m runs linked together.

View from the path:
Today I ran to Umstead Park from the running store. I ran the Reedy Creek trail from east gate to the west gate. So 16km in the park and 16km outside the park. There was a bit more walking of hills than I would have wanted and a fantastic 16km whoop whoop rally by the best three faces in the world! The path in the park was a bit mucky but still runnable and there were fewer people out on the trail. Some parts were still frozen and the sun was out. It was great.

The Music:
As I said on the last long run, the first song sets the tone. It was Just the Way You Are from the Glee soundtrack. Nothing like Finn singing "to me" that I'm amazing to start off my run. At one point I was cursing an uphill and the Black Eyed Peas - Tonights Gonna to Be a Good Night gave me the push I needed at the 20km mark to make it up the hill. And as I finished my run, U2's Bad "If I could, yes I would ,If I could, I would ,Let it go" rang in my ears. Truly one of the best songs of my generation!!! Plus the almost 4 hours of other songs that kept me motivated!!!

Aside:
Philipiddes may have started this psychotic passtime and I'm sure millions have run before me, but this has definately been an unforgettable journey that I'm so greatful to have shared with my friends and family. Three weeks to the Disney Marathon and I'm starting to believe that I can do this!!! Thank you for all of your support.

Next week: another 32km/20miles training run, this time it'll be in Sarasota!!! a little warmer for sure, at least I hope so!

December 16, 2010 - 5km

Today was the day after the "snow" day, so they started 2 hours later and instead of running outdoors I took Abby with me to the gym. She played in the awesome playpark with all the other kids who had to wait for school to start. I ran on the treadmill and felt great. The first 20minutes went really well, the next 10minutes I didn't feel so great. I guess with having survived two weeks of a cold, not so great sleeping and being OTR took me down. Yup, I almost fell off the treadmill! It was a really good indication to stop.

View from the treadmill:
Well almost the treadmill belt, but I made it off before I went ass over teacup!

The Music:
I don't remember!

December 15, 2010 - 5mile/8km

One month anniversary of living in the new digs and to celebrate a 5 mile/8km run on the treadmill...ok well not really. But it has been a month and I did run this morning. It wasn't bad, my lungs still hurt! This weekends attempt at 32km will be hard for sure, but a couple more 5-10km runs this week should help.

View from the treadmill:
Really nice looking chiropractor works out of the gym, today I guess he didn't have clients so he just hung out by his office, nice perk!

December 11, 2010 - 6.5kms treadmill

Sorry, I did run yesterday but when sharing the computer with two kids who are all about movies, I didn't have a chance to blog about my run. I took the girls to the gym where they played in the awesome playpark and I ran 6.5km on the treadmill. It was easier than the day before but still not great.

View from the treadmill:
Well the gym is much busier on a weekend than during the week but still no where near as busy as to the Goodlife in Ottawa. Body Pump was going on and it wasn't packed, lots of room if I had wanted to join but I felt since I won't be getting in my 32km this week, I should probably at least attempt to run.

The Music
There was music, but the iPod is now dead so I can't recount. It wasn't a great mix, there was a lot of fast forwards to keep the motivation up!

Tomorrow (Monday) my plan is to run 20km. I don't have a lot of time in the mornings even with Rowan in daycare, so it's better than nothing, I will run my 32km this weekend. Wish me luck!

December 10th, 2010 - 3km treadmill

So apparently you do need lungs to run LOL or not! I still feel crappy and there was no way I was running 32kms today and I almost didn't even go to the gym. I brought my stuff with me to drop the girls off at school and on my way back it was a very strong internal battle to go or not to go to the gym. But I was good and went. It was lack luster for sure plus my iPod died. So I used my fancy cell phone and streamed Slacker Radio with their alternative station to run to. It wasn't half bad, except for the commercials.

View from the treadmill:
my lungs hurt and there wasn't much to see!

The Music: Didn't remember them all, but these are the songs I remembered and may now add them to my playlist!
Rage against the machine - Guerilla Radio
Modest Mouse - Float On
Weezer - If You're Wondering If I Want You to) I Want You to
Dirty Heads - Lay me down

December 8th, 2010 - 5km treadmill

I feel like crap, can't swallow but ran anyway. It wasn't the prettiest, but who is on a treadmill? All I can say is that I got it done!

And that's all I can say about that.

December 5th, 2010 - 29kms

Today was a mental battle...it's snowed last night (something which I moved south to avoid!) and I had to run 29kms. I really don't like running by myself, I miss my running partner. The music definately helps, but at some points, not even that has what I need. Running a path I remember helped though. I had visual markers that told me how far I was even if I didn't know exactly the distances. I ran the path from Fleet Feet Sports to Umstead Park and back. Within the park I was to run a loop, but I got washed out and had to turn around and backtrack. Which in the end was what I needed to make the 29km.

Holy crap there was wind today and of course was in my face for the first 10km. Now I wasn't optimistic that it would push me home, because usually it switches and is in your face on the way back too (at least in Ottawa). But today, things were in my favour! Not only did I get the little push, I didn't fall, I didn't get lost and I didn't lose my phone!

View from the path:
Entering Umstead Park was beautiful. The snow was still up in the tall trees and with all the wind was falling down. So it looked like it was snowing while there was bright sunshine, it was just amazing. There were fewer people out today in the park, but the diehards. It's nice to run alone amongst the trees right up until the path is completely washed out. I came to this point at the same time as another runner coming the other direction. He decided to hop the stones across. I decided with 15kms to go that I didn't want to run with wet feet, as my blister on my right foot was already talking to me. I stayed while he crossed for fear if he fell he'd need help. It took a bit, but he made it across. I decided to turn around and back track to where I came from, the only issue at that point was that I was at the bottom of a wicked hill that was all gravel.

Seeing the girls at 21kms for my food break was also great timing. Getting the Go Mommy Go cheer really does lighten the spirits when all I wanted to do was quit. I know why I'm doing this craziness, I'm just not sure I want to anymore when it hurts so much. At the end of the run, I knew why again, however, I'm still not sure if I can do it. But I'm going to give it my best effort. Today 29km in 3hrs 35mins. Have I mentioned how much I HATE HILLS!!! I'm not going to lie, I walked a few of them near the end.

The Music:
I've come to believe that the first song says alot! Is It Any Wonder by Keane, kind of fit the bill today, because that's all it is, A Wonder!
When I met up with the girls, I thought it was funny that their favourite song was playing on my iPod was kismit! Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire along with my cheers gave me the last boost for the run.

Next week 32km!

December 4th, 2010 - 3km...well kind of

So I wanted to have a short run before I tackle the 29km this weekend. Darty and I took off first thing and we got half way when I realized that Darty's paw was bleeding. So I took a detour and headed back to the apartment. It was a chilly morning, I had to wear mits! It probably ended up being almost 3km.

View from the path:
Not much on a Saturday morning that early. Later in the day we had snow!!! Who knew I'd move to Raleigh, NC and we'd get snow and about 2inches. Which puts this city to a grinding halt. They are bad drivers to begin with, adding snow to the mix is deadly.

No music today as I actually realized after I left that I'd forgotten it!

December 2nd, 2010 - 5km at the gym

Today I took Rowan to the gym and as I ran on the treadmill for the first time in months, she got to play in the awesome play park. I've forgotten how boring the treadmill is, her play park was way more exciting. The reason for the gym, I actually didn't have warm enough clothes for a 6:30am run. It was -8 this morning. Who'd a thought I would have needed long pants ???

View from the treadmill:
I hate it I hate it, but it needed to be done. My legs from yesterday's pump class were so sore. You also don't realize that you're sweating quite so much when you are outside, let alone having to deal with the smell of two other runners on either side of you. Nothing to really look at in the people watching department, but still got it done!

December 1st, 2010 - 25 days to Santa and a Body Pump class!

Today I checked out my new gym. It's weird not being at Goodlife but the Golds Gym by Rowan's preschool will do just fine. It has all the basics including the Les Mills group exercise programs. Today I did Body Pump for the first time in months. I'm going to be so sore. I liked the instructor, she was great. It wasn't busy, it was a nice re-introduction and my muscles were screaming at me when I left. Tomorrow's run will suck!

View from the mat:
Well since it's been a while I felt a little like a newbie. Also since it's all in pounds and not kilo's too! I was staring at the weights doing the conversion in my head and just assummed the big, middle and small plates were close and of course they are, maybe slightly more. One thing I did notice was that I was the only one wearing Lululemon, not the fashion must have as it was in Ottawa that is for sure.

Tomorrow I run...if I can walk! :)

November 30th, 2010 - 3km at 6:30am

Good Morning!!! I gotta say the god aweful music on the radio station does its work in the morning. It gets me out of bed and out the door. The bouncing dog also does that too! Justin Timberlake really does sound like a cat in heat... who should be put in a bag and thrown into a pool!

So today was rather a warm morning and I was feeling pretty good! Kept a good pace for sure!

November 28, 2010 - 12km

So if you've read, my running experience has been interesting what with me getting lost, falling etc. This run...nothing! Other than the beautiful scenery and the rare other runner, it was great. I ran over to Lake Johnson, which I now know is less than a km away!

View from the path:
12kms today, which is far less than the intended 18km taper run, but since everyone told me to take it easy after last weeks fall, I did. So with a little trepidation on the down hills, I took to the paths around the lake. GOD DAMN HILLS! But I got it done and I only walked one of them.

November 27, 2010 - 3k

Took a couple of days off to rest the ankle. So I ran the 3km block loop with Darty this morning. It's still tender and I'm still taking it easy but it felt good. The calf muscle is a bit tight but nothing a good stretch didn't fix.

November 23rd - my 100th post!!!

Well today I was a little timid, at least that's how I felt about going out to run on my ankle. The only thing that prevented me from bailing on it was the horrific music on the local station here in Cary. I hate most top 40 music and the crap that was on this morning, got me out of bed. I ran the 3k loop around the block. My ankle was ok, a bit stiff and sore by the end, but I should be ok for my 10k on Thursday.

View from the path:
Not much at 6:30am, just me and Darty who was thrilled to be out there! It was also 15 degrees out and I had too many layers.

November 21, 2010 - not quite 26kms...at least I didn't break anything!

First off, I hate hills!!! So much so, I avoid them like the plague. Anyone who has run with me knows this. But what is with this city???? every where I go there are freaking hills. My hamstrings don't just talk back after a run, they scream at me!

So today's run, well where to start. Today was my first long run on my own. I got up, got ready and Rob and the girls dropped me off at my starting point, which is a running store in Raleigh. What's weird is that they weren't open at 9am? I miss the Running Room for that b/c I couldn't find my gels this morning while getting ready and so I wanted to buy some before I took off. At least the Whole Foods next store had some. They only had the mocha with caffeine, so I had to use them sparingly. Hate to have an allergic reaction out on a run. All was good and off I went!

View from the path:
Well I was feeling pretty good, no issues at first. I got to the Museum of Art and went right instread of left on the path and got a little turned around but before I freaked out too much I remembered I had my phone. I did a little "where's me???" and found the route again. The path was gorgeous, took some pics again. Passed a horse farm and finally found Umstead park. OMG hills and more hills. Rob and the girls met up with me at around 13km to refuel me. Got some more water and gels and a couple "GO MOMMY GO" from Abby and Rowan and off I went again. The run was an out and back. As I got back to the Museum of Art I was feeling pretty good. I was at 20km when I stepped on a pebble and went "ass over tea cup" as my mother would say. If it was anyone else, they'd have broken their ankle. Mine just rolled and with a couple nasty scraped hands, I picked myself up, dusted myself off and ever so gingerly continued on my way. Next up, about 2kms further, I almost got run over by a bike. A kid about 10 wasn't paying attention and thank god his father was paying attention and stopped him before he rode right into me. Keep going and with a little side step to make the 25km I got back to the running store to meet my cheering squad! Feeling great and accomplised...right up until I realized my cell phone was missing. Rob kept his wits about him, since mine were toast, called my cell and the wonderful person who found my phone told us where we could pick it up. It had a couple scratches from the fall from my holster but that was about it.

The worst part of a run, for those who have run these distances, is the after. I mean, the shower is truly an experience with the game "where's the chaffing???" Always exciting!!! It's now an hour or so after my shower and my ankle is a bit sore and a little more flexible than it should be and my hands have fantastic bruises but all in all, a very exciting run.

It may not have been 26km as planned, but I'll take it!!!

The Music:
51 songs total, so I'll just hit a couple of the highlights
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Long Forgotten Sons - Rise Against

November 19, 2010 - 9km Lake Johnson trail run gone askew!

Yesterday I found an awesome little spot on my journey's that has a wonderful running path around a small lake. Lake Johnson. Rowan and I walked a bit of the trail. Today I decided I would run the trail. Just before I left for the run, I took a piece of my thumb off whilst cutting vegetables for lunch. I nearly didn't go at all but once the nausea subsided I decided to go. All the way around is 6.5km, so I thought not a bad distance for my second run. So I drove over and parked in the lot and took off. First ten minutes was so hilly I almost turned back. My heart was racing in my head so hard, I thought I was going to be hill. So much for avoiding hill training, I think every run will be hill training :)

View from the path:

It was a beautiful run. I took some pics as I went along. I was having a great run once I got past all the hills. The sun was shining, the temperature was about 15 degrees. I was actually smiling...until I missed my path and go so wickedly lost. I tried to back track and got totally turned around. Nothing like being in a city I don't know but even worse is being in a park I know even less. This nice guy on a bike came upon me in tears and offered his help. He pulled out his cell phone to use his GPS. I had my garmin on and didn't know it had a map feature on it (Rob told me about it after) and I also didn't even think about my new phone either. So not use to having a smartphone with me. I finally made it back onto the trail and continued on my run. So what should have been around 6.5 km turned about to be over 9km. Althought a great run in theory, the experience not so much! Seeing my car almost had me in tears again. Now I know, stick to the paved path, don't try to assume it's as easy as they say.

November 17, 2010 - 3km

First run in a new town...how weird is that. Also that it was about 15 degrees out this morning. I did, I think, 3km. Rob sent me out on his route, but he sent me to a mall and then I got lost. I continued to walk/run a bit until I got reoriented and found my way back. I actually was sweating like crazy, something different than the 3 degrees I have been running in. I have to run at least one more time before my 26km this weekend. That should be fun, since I have no idea where to go. I may try to look for a running store tomorrow.

It's Abby's first day at school tomorrow too...lots going on but the run did make me feel much more at ease!

View from the path:
There are leaves on the trees and they are just starting to change colour. I feel like I had travelled back in time to September when it started in Ottawa!

No music. Two reasons. One, I didn't know where I was and didn't want to block out the unfamiliar sounds and two, I didn't know where my earphones were. Definately next time.

November 13th, 2010 - 23kms

So why am I doing this????? In the the truly magnificent words of my dear friend Cindy, I have more balls than brains! Today was the longest I've ever run ever. 23kms. Lisa and I ran from my house to her house. That's from Kanata to downtown Ottawa along the NCC paths by the Ottawa River. It was a spectacular day for our last run together, perfect temperature and sunny. We both forgot our sun glasses, thank god they sun was behind us most of the time. The chatting was great, it made the the first 15 just cruise on by. I did at one point need a distraction so I asked a question which I knew would warrent a long description. It got me through my frist wall.

View from the path:

At about 12kms we got a nice little honk from a passing car, which would normally be a cause for concern except it was Rob and the girls doing a drive by cheer! Next at about 17kms we ran into Cindy who was on her run as well. Not quite as long as ours but equally as hard! Another great rah rah and off we went again. We both ran out of water and decided to stop at the WAr Museum for a refill and then the final 3km is straight up Parliament Hill. Not a lot of talking at that point. As we made the final push we passed Albert and Lyon and heard the greatest sound. That of two little girls squeeling GO MOMMY GO!!! It was a great finish to a tough run.

Thanks to Lisa, my running partner, for sticking with me and for joining me on this journey! The next few without you will be tough for sure but will use me as my guru to keep me going!!!

Next week: 26kms!!

November 10th, 2010 - 10kms

So I'm officially a long distance runner. I say this because today I did something that only a diehard would do and that's pee in a bush! I so had to go and there was no one around and no where to go and a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

It was beautiful out! A lovely 2 degrees but sunny. I wore my toque to start but should have just worn my running hat as my head got too warm. I took it off and then it was too sunny so I ducked my head, then my glasses kept fogging up and so had to run without them too. only thing that sucked about the run.

View from the path:
lots and lots of deer and geese! Other than that, it was just me and the path.

November 5th, 2010 - 20k whoop whoop!!!

Well first off I did run yesterday too! I ran 4km around the golf course. It's now closed and so I ran the paths. Just me as Darty was still not 100%. I think his running days may be numbered.

Today Lisa and I met at her place down town and ran basically the same route as last week but by running from her house it added on the necessary extra 3km. I'm not going to lie, it wasn't the easiest run in the world. I felt great going out. My hip was sore, but that I think was more due to the craptastic sleep I had. The first half was ok but once the rain started to come down harder and the temperature started to drop, my love of the run was diminishing. We got to the Canal Ritz and all I really wanted to do was stop, whereas Lisa "was getting into her stride". Considering she swam again prior to her run, I really wanted to curl up into a little ball. Mental note - stop your whining, suck it up princess and get it done. So although we'd chatted the entire time until that point, the last 5 was done mostly in silence. It was all I had to finish. I went landmark to landmark, short little runs all tagged together. Once we got into downtown again and had to bob and weave the foot traffic, for some reason we both picked up the pace and were sub 6min kms, crazy!

We finished in 2:15 and once we stopped I felt great. It's amazing how that happens :)

View from the path:
There are a lot more cars out during the week! Freaking hate the rain!

No music! but I did get to follow up my run with a quick breakfast chez Lisa and then off to an hour massage provided by Bruce at Ability Massage (http://www.abilityrmt.com/) in Kanata. I highly recommend that after every long run, so I booked for next Saturday after our 23km.

Next week is 23km, the longest I've ever run! Send good vibes my way please!!!!

November 2nd, 2010 - almost 5km

It was freaking cold out this morning. Frost on the ground, steam from breathing, felt awesome! After the 17km my legs didn't feel too bad, so also a positive. Darty and I dropped the kids of at respective daycares and headed out for 3km. At the 3km turn around I felt great so decided to do 5km, but didn't quite make it as Darty started to limp, so I turned around and headed home. It was more like 4.5km.

View from the path:
Me, Darty and about 30 wild turkeys. Made for an exciting time for Dartagnan, as he tried to catch them all. All of the bushes and trees were covered in frost and with the bright sunlight, glimmered beautifully. It was a great morning, crisp run. I'll miss these!

Oct 30, 2010 - Devils Night and a 17km run!

Why does the morning come so fast when you have to get up for a run. It was like I closed my eyes and then boom it was time to get up. Lisa and I met at UofO and ran the canal again but had to add 4k from last week. So we ran up to Hogs Back and over to Prince of Wales and then back to Dows lake and around. We were both surprised on how much easier this run was and felt pretty good the entire time. I did feel rather slothy but only because Lisa got up and did an hour and a half swim practice prior to our 17kms but I will gladly take this run and allow myself to eat, drink and be merry at our going away party tonight.

View from the path:
Lots of runners were out this morning as it was much warmer than last week. The route was basically the same, so not much new to see but the conversation was great. We chatted about anything and everthing the entire time. We did have to take a pee break at Carleton around 6kms. I knew I wouldn't last the next 10kms so it added about 10mins to our run. Still at just under 2hours we completed 16.76km. I'm also adding the walk back to the car to complete my 17km goal!

The Music:
None during but in the car on the drive down to meet Lisa and the drive home I was listening to my Glee soundtrack and it was just enough to keep me motivated. I do so enjoy the music!

Next week:
20km! have to run Friday as I'll be heading to TO to say goodbye to those friends before the big move to Raleigh!

Oct 29, 2010 - 5k one day late

OK OK, I know I was suppose to do this last night but who's kidding who, I didn't want to. So I mentally prepared myself to get my ass out of bed, get the kids ready for their Halloweeny days at respective daycares, drop them off and then go for my 5km run. Task achieved! It was cool out but the wind was warmish. I know hard to believe but it wasn't like it's been where it cuts you like a knife. We ran our typical golf course 5km and by we I mean Darty and I. The run was good. My hip hurt a bit but after the run there was lots of stretching and that seems to have made it feel better. Tomorrow Lisa and I are running 17km, wish us luck!!!

View from the path:
Met a new neighbour who thought we were knew to the neighbourhood since he's seen us only a few times lately. He has a dog just like Darty who's half Lab and half Retriever and she's 14! Lots of years left in my puppy!!!!

Oct 26, 2010 - 3km

Well I'm on day two of being a stay-at-home mom and so far so good. I haven't killed anyone yet, so that's a good sign. Just kidding. I've been busy making cupcakes and starting a new quilt. The packing hasn't started so much, I'm afraid I'll pack something and then I'll need it. I will have to bite the bullet soon enough. Today Rob, Darty and I ran the 3km. After Saturday's 13km, it felt good. A little stiff still but not nearly as bad as it's going to get.

View from the path:
Mostly my mind has been on how I'm going to decorate all the cupcakes for halloween and the cake for the party, also halloween themed. Definately makes the run go by quick. Rob's legs were sore during the run, mostly because he hasn't been running them lately. It is getting better.

No music today, but looking forward to tonight's Glee and then to download the songs I really like! Rocky Horror Glee Show - MUCH FUN!!!

Oct 23rd, 2010 - 13kms baby!!!

Holy crap it was cold when I woke up this morning and top it off it was a 13km day. So didn't want to go but had made plans to run with Lisa, who will be running with me at Disney, so I had to go. Most of my winter running stuff is in boxes, but I found mittens and a running hat that covers my ears. I put on an extra layer under the long sleeve shirt and jacket, only had crop pants, but alas off I went! We met downtown to run the canal. The sun was out as a positive and there wasn't snow as was told by the weather man. Off we went at 8:45am and finished around 10:15am. We ran up and around Dows Lake. Felt great once we finished, lots of "will this ten minutes ever end".

View from the path:
There was no one on the paths when we left but when we got back, there was quite a few. It was great to run with Lisa, we haven't run since NCM 10k 2 years ago. She's faster than I am but kept my pace which was great. It was also nice to have someone there to pass the time. It went by faster than it would have if I'd run alone that is for sure! We chatted the entire time and for both of us the incentive to finish was that we could have wine at the spa party we were going to this afternoon. My friends rock, they are throwing me this party to say goodbye. Can't wait. Another plus to running the 13km today is that we can have that glass of wine and all the treats!!!

Oct 19, 2010 - 3k

Today was a 3k day and I wasn't sure I was going to actually make it out, but in the end I found the time. Darty and I took the path behind the golf course, par usual! Rob didn't run, he had to put the plumbing back into the kitchen after we got are awesome new granite counters yesterday!

View from the path:
Saw a couple of deers again, this time not as close as on Sunday. The leaves are falling so quickly, it was like running on a carpet. Plus it's getting really slippery, so taking more care is important!

Oct 16, 2010 - long and slow run 10k

Saturday morning and all I wanted to do was sleep in. So far so good, 8am!!! Then the first child appears in full purple toutou ready for breakfast. I guess I'll get up! Running clothes adorned, shoes on, water bottle filled and iPod ready. So here we go! It was all I had to get out the door. Last week's 7.6 seemed easy but adding another 3k seemed daunting this morning. iPod on, The Jacksons, Can You Feel It playing and away I went. No Darty today, I felt after he was limping after the last run on Thursday, that I thought maybe he should rest. He was not pleased at all. I heard him barking as I ran down the street. At the turnaround at 5k, I thought, how am I ever going to run 42.2km in two months. Gotta love self doubt! The mental battle has begun. The physical one is already full on with my hip, lower back and lungs already against me. It's my friends who are following my journey and those who boost my morale on Facebook that are definately helping me get through this.

View from the path:
Well to start, a deer almost ran me over. I was watching this beautiful deer watch me from the side of the path, as I got closer another came out of my blindspot and ran not 5 feet in front of me. Scared the living crap out of me. Once my heart started back I was on my way again.

Oct 14, 2010 - 5k

Well I was prepared to run in the rain, I don't like to, but was willing to do it for my marathon goal. Then mother nature smiled upon me and held the rain off until later. Thank you mother nature!!!

View from the path:
Rob joined Darty and I again and made it the complete 5k. All the way to Carling on the path behind the golf course. More and more leaves on the ground so a bit more care is required in not rolling an ankle. Felt good, although we stopped a couple times. Hip is a bit sore now.

No music today:(

Oct 12, 2010 - ok it's definately autumn!

So I wasn't too bad after my long run and after eating all the food from thanksgiving, a short run today was definately needed! The fall has finally hit too, it was about 10 degrees celcius out. The route was the standard 3km in behind the golf course. Rob came with me and he's doing much better. Darty too! I have to say it's nice to go for a run to feel better and not worse!

View from the path:
As we were along the back stretch I noticed a very distinctive walker coming our way, it was Bob from across the street. Dartagnan saw him and took off! As Bob passed Rob I heard him say "She's kicking your ass dude!" because I was probably 100m in front of Rob. I chuckled! At the turn around point, when Darty knew we were on our way home he took off like a bat out of hell for Bob. Nothing like the allegiance of a dog! Ah well.

10-10-10 - Happy Thanksgiving!

14 people coming plus 18 lbs turkey plus pumpkin pie plus apple pie plus veggie strudel etc etc equals must go on long run. So 7k was the goal and 7.6km was the actual - whoop whoop. It was just beautiful out too!

View from the path:

October 9th, 2010 - Happy Birthday Mere!

Not only is it my sister's bday it's a run day! I was suppose to run 7k and had every intention to do so but then someone wanted to come see the house so cleaning and getting ready for that took precedence this morning. We took the kids to the pumpkin patch and Darty to Bruce Pitt for a walk. When we got home I went into pre-thanksgiving mode. I made an apple pie, roasted vegetables for a strudel and made sugar cookies in the shape of turkeys. I also had to make dinner, flank steak stuffed with panko bread crumbs, parmasan, pine nuts and basil (really yummy) Once I was all ready Rob said "lets go for a run". So off we went. We did the standard 3k behind the golf course. We took Darty too.

View from the path:
Lots of golfers out as it was gorgeous out. In the sun it was warm but once the wind blew or you were in the shade, you really knew that fall was here. The leaves are even more colourful than two days ago. Rob didn't have a great run but at least he was out there. I felt pretty good. My abs were killing me from the Ab Ripper 100 workout. 100 reps total: 10 reps x 10 different exercises.

Tomorrow 7km long run. Must do it and that way I can eat the dinner I'm making for 14 people for Thanksgiving!

October 7, 2010 - 5k

Today was a run day. I missed my circuit yesterday due to life getting in the way, so even though my hip hurt after my chiro appointment, I took off with Darty to the path behind the golf course. What a beautiful day but holy cow it was windy. Why is it, that in Ottawa at least, no matter which way you run, the wind is always in your face???? It wasn't a pretty run but I was out there. When I took off my hip was sore. I expected it to be since I had my adjustment about an hour and half prior. I immediately bailed on the 5k and decided I'd just go 3k. When I got to the turn around point the pain was gone and although tired kept up and went all the way to the end of the path before it hit Carling. Darty loves our runs but I think as he gets older he's not as fast anymore. So he likes to run right in front of me to slow me down. At one point he stopped completely, lets just say there might have been some swearing!

View from the path:
Not much other than the most amazing colours of the leaves. It was just amazing. I'm going to miss my path!

The Music:
Yes, I ran with music today. It may not have been as loud as I like but still not 100% over the creepy bike guy incident. However, here we go:

October 5, 2010 - 3k run

Today I ran 3km with Rob and Darty. It was just beautiful out. We ran the path behind the golf course and yay, no crazy guys on bikes! I am still sore from yesterday's circuit workout and the hips a bit sore now, several hours later, but feeling good to back at it regularly. I'm on day two of the "no white" diet and to me that just means no sweets really. I was good, I didn't eat the chocolate bar that tormented me every time I went to pick up something from the printer. Our social committee sells chocolate bars and chips in our business centre and of course there is also all the fund raiser chocolates available too. I persevered and now, of course, as I type this I want one. But to bed I go and this to shall pass!!!

View from the path:
The colours of the changing leaves were amazing. As you run along the path and the overhang of the trees and all the colours is kind of like what I invisioned Sleepy Hollow to look like. Darty saw a deer and took off but he isn't quite as fast as he use to be!

No music today because I ran with Rob. He only had to stop once, so he's on the road to recovery too!

October 4, 2010 - Day 1 P90

Today I started the P90 exercise program. In 90 days, I'll be a brand new me, or at least back to where I was before I hurt my hip. I need something and without Goodlife and limited running at present, I decided to do this program. Many friends have done the P90X but I thought I'd do the lower one before I tried the extreme. Basically it's every other day circuit/cardio for 6 days with 1 day off. I'm going to do running for my cardio days unless it's just down right crappy out. There is also an abdominal workout with the cardio, to look out six pack, here I come!

The Workout:
I'm using the bands b/c our weights are in storage. It covers total body with 3 different circuits. In between each circuit is a stretching routine. It's so simple and I'm so sore only a couple hours later, tomorrow will be fun with stairs. As I've done it for a while, I'll start using my own music but for now I'll listen to the boom chicka pow wow music on the disc.

I'm also going to try their 6 day protein fat burning diet. So day one has been ok so far, however I'm sure the craving for sugar will hit sometime this afternoon. It's a kick start! Rob's away but plans to join in when he gets home on Weds. Here's to looking and feeling better!

My marathon long runs start this week too. I'm really behind but will be steady with the increase in mileage and I'll get to where I get for January. This Sunday 7kms!

October 3, 2010 - CIBC Run for the Cure

Today Abby and I walked/ran the 5k CIBC Run for the Cure for Leandra. Abby decided on Weds of last week she wanted to go with me, so together we took off on a beautiful Sunday morning in Ottawa with 7000 or so other's dressed in pink for an amazing 5k. Everyone cheered for everyone else. At around 3kms Abby got tired so we cut through an area and joined the rest of the walkers. At about 4kms I was now walking for two as Abby was piggybacking! With 500m to go, Abby decided she wanted to run. As she took off for the finish, the volunteers (mostly highschool students) were high fiving her and cheering her on, she was so excited. She crossed the finish line with her arms up. So it wasn't much of a workout, it was great to be apart of something so special.

Until next year!

October 2, 2010 - 5k baby no pain

at least not while I was running. But god that felt good!!! I'm still not 100 percent but on the road to recovery. Darty and I hit the golf club trail and decided to do 5k this morning. I was a little tentative at first, but when there was no pain with the first few steps I kept going. When I finished I felt great and when I stretched I could feel the twinge. It's amazing how a good run makes you feel. Now the day can begin.

Tomorrow is the CIBC run for the cure and Abby is going to "run" with me. So there will be more walking than running but it'll be fun.

Still no music on the run as I'm not yet feeling comfortable on my own back there. But if I had it I'm sure I'd be Glee'ing it as that's what I'm enjoying on my iPod these days!

Sept 20, 2010 - freakin hip

So I'm going to vent a wee bit, my blog, my perogative. I haven't run since last week, have had no pain and today I take maybe 30 steps and boom, hip starts to hurt. There was some cursing and I almost stopped but kept at it. It eventually lessened and I ran just the 3k behind the golf course with Darty. At this rate, I'm not sure I'll be running in January and that just pisses me off. I'll take tomorrow off and try again on Weds.

No music today. Since the guy on the bike incident, I'm not totally comfortable with wearing my iPod back there alone right now.

Also a little sad I've got no running buddies, but then it's always only been about me and shall continue to be about my running journey. Join me in silence!!!

I'm also running, probably walking the CIBC run for the cure on Oct 3rd. I'm running for the most amazing woman who lost her battle with cancer in May. Leandra was my second mother and I miss her terribly. So if you are reading and you want to pledge that would be great.

Sept 15, 2010 - Online training group anyone???

Ok, so I haven't run today but I've been inspired with people reading my blog to ask if any of you would like to train with me for the marathon or half marathon at Disney in January 2011. This weekend I plan on attempting a 7km run. Now keep in mind I've not run alot in the last little while so it might be slow but at least I'll attempt it. I'll also be running at my parents place which is farm country and therefore hilly. I'll have to ramp up quickly so if you are already at the 14km mark that's great, I'll get there soon. I can post a training schedule too if that would be helpful.

Anyway, if you'd like to join me, add a comment. Tell me who you are, how long you've been running, what type of music you run to or anything else you'd like!

I've also changed the look and added a pic of me and my girls. I hope you like it.

Thanks again for reading! You've motivated me to keep at it!

and Terrell, Saucony shoes are the best for wide feet and skinny ankles!!!

Sept 14, 2010 - new shoes, new shoes, new shoes!!!

I love me my new shoes. Saucony Progrid Stable for us really bad pronators and to top it off, mens 9 because my dainty feet don't fit right in the womens 10wide. Yup wide I say!!!

Today as a tester, Darty and I ran 3k behind the golf course. Felt great!!!

I guess my blogging is being read because yesterday Goodlife Fitness wished me well when I fared them goodbye. Feeling pretty good about it too!

Nothing to see just me and Dart and no music because at present I'm not sure where my iPod is.

Sept 13, 2010 - Goodbye Goodlife Fitness

Today was my last workout/run at Goodlife Fitness. I've been a member for over 10 years and I have to say I'm a little sad. My membership expired and there is no point in renewing with the upcoming move. So it's all on my own until I find a good gym in Cary. Today I ran outside along the canal to the pedestrian bridge. It was suppose to be rainy and miserable today and of course the weather man was wrong, it was sunny and a little cool, the most excellent running temperature! All the students are back in class and everyone is back from vacation, so there was lots of people watching today. The convention centre is putting up windows and is looking awesome, however, the running path is all chewed up and closed so had to stick to the canal path which isn't exactly smooth. Had to pay alot of attention to holes. I also forgot my iPod today which would normally suck but today a revelation. My shoes squeek! That's past being done! It's a good thing my new shoes are on order. Maybe my shoes were the problem to my hip the whole time. Chiro has been fun (LOL) but I can think of a better way to spend a thousand dollars.

So now I wait for my new shoes and start with training plan this weekend. I can still run 3ks with these shoes and that should keep me going for a bit.

Anyway, thanks Goodlife, it's been fun!

after I wrote the above, my shoes came in!!! whoop whoop

September 10, 2010 - 3k

So today's run was fun and a bit creepy all together. I got home early and asked Rob if he wanted to join me. Expecting a no, I actually got a yes. We've not run together in a very very long time. So off we went with Darty and ran in behind the golf course. Rob's not run in a while as well due to his back and took a walk break early. He told me to go on. As I did this guy passed on his bike and gave me a look. He passed me and crossed over the street as I did. I took Darty off leash and started on the path, the guy followed and as he passed me he leared again. Feeling uneasy I turned back towards Rob. As we started to run together again the guy on the bike came back on the path towards us and when he realized that I was with Rob he kept going. That's the first time I've ever felt uncomfortable running back there.

As for the run, not bad just slow. My hip flexers and my IT band tightened up later but it's getting better!

View from the path:
Other than the creepy guy, it was beautiful out. Lots of golfers on the course too! Just a great day for a run.

No music either, I find it rude to run with someone and wear music.

Sept 7, 2010 - first day of school!

Well not for Abby. This week they meet the teacher but next week they go everyday! As for me, I ran outside for the first time in over a month and run in general since last week. Holy crap that was hard. 3.5 k and I had to stop twice. Brings some humility to it all.

View from the path:
lots and lots of students out today. first day back at uni and all the baby faced frosh were running around and collecting money for shinerama etc. Was I ever that young. I still feel that old mentally, the body would say different. Here's hoping the hip isn't too bad later. Today I also pick up new shoes. Maybe that will help as well. Just gotta keep at it. First long run this weekend, should be interesting since I haven't done 5 yet and my goal is 10km!

September 2, 2010 - I can't believe it's September already

3kms today and...no pain! whoop whoop. so the joint thing seems to be getting better but the IT band is tight tight tight. If I sit for too long it just tightens up again. But hey, at least now the pain goes away. One week from the start of marathon training. It was suppose to be Sunday but I'm heading to Raleigh, NC to check out my new home town. Should be interesting. I also did about a gazillion situps today b/c those too have lost their way in the last month. I almost had definition, now there is nothing! The chocolate bars aren't helping.

View from the treadmill
People watching down on Sparks street. Some ass in a car didn't read the "pedestrian street" signs and drove right down the center of it. Several people gave the single finger salute! I also watched the 10 best pranks on TSN at noon. Too funny what some athletes will do to another!

August 31, 2010 - hot hot hot

and two weeks later...

first the hip, then the cold strikes and voila no gym or exercise of any kind in the last two weeks. walking to get the mail 100 meters doesn't count, I know! Today I ran! Yup a whole 2kms at a nice easy pace. Sweat pouring off my skin and the lungs working in over time. The coughing and hacking will commence at any time now. So how's the hip? well so far so good. No pain other than "you haven't used me in a long time" kind of pain. We'll see how the day progresses.

Excellent, only b/c it's been so long. Tooooooooo hot to run outside and pretty warm inside too. But got it done

Did some weights as well today. Where did all the hotties come from????? I mean usually they are sparce at the 11:30am time zone, but today there were several. Especially the one who was doing bicep curls with 50lbs dumbells on the boso ball. very impressive! typical flaw, skinny legs!

August 16, 2010 - back to pump

I know I know, I'm a slacker. But when you can't do the one thing you are to be training for, you lose a little motivation. But after a weekend of crazy and lack of sleep, I needed to workout today. So I went to a pump class. Tim taught so I wasn't expecting much but in actual fact, he was good today. He even asked if we wanted arms today instead of shoulders and lunges, and we all voted arms. Plus! I didn't aggrevate my hip. It felt great, I'm still tired but at least I got rid of some of my tension.

View from the mat:
Other than the sweat! LOL. I did a 15mins warm-up on the elliptical. Either I'm getting use to it...it was ok. I still would prefer to be running.

Tomorrow I will go back and swim.

August 10, 2010 - swimming

So I tried something different today. I went for a swim. It's been over a year and half since I swam lengths. I need cardio and since I can't run, I thought lets swim.

I'm so tired!!!

Workout:
warm-up - 800m freestyle relaxed, 100m kick
main set - 5 x 100 free, 20 secs rest, each set faster
cooldown - 100m slow

I didn't want to over do it, it took about 40mins. Sadly my hip is sore after which is something since I barely kick.

August 4, 2010 - Body Pump kind of

Back at it again. I saw the chiro in the morning and then at lunch went to a body pump class. Before the class started I did 10mins on another type of elliptical. This one was better, but I still hated it. Then the class started. I made it to the lunge track and then had to stop, thought I was going to pass out. I guess I didn't eat enough this morning. Not sure. Exhaustion also very present in my day today.

View from the mat:
Saw the stick bug chick again. This time she was preening in the locker room. I honestly have never seen anyone spend so much time and product on the placement of each individual hair. It was frightening really. As for the class, it was great. Maya taught, she was the club manager at Vanier for a long time and she's awesome! It was also the new release, I can say for what I finished, it was evil. I will be really sore tomorrow. So far I'm just a little sore and my hip isn't hurting, so here's hoping!

August 3rd, 2010 - OMG where did the summer go?

Well I was back at it today. And by it I mean I went to the gym and worked out. No running allowed. SI joint is imflammed plus a couple of my lumbar discs aren't happy campers, so instead I used the elliptical. OMG I HATE IT!!! But it has to be done. If I do nothing I will just erase all my hard work. So that and some weights were achieved today.

View from the mat:
Can I tell you once again how much I hate that machine. So boring. Yes I did break a sweat but it's just so dull. You don't go anywhere. I do feel the same about the treadmill except I feel like I've accomplished something on it at least.

The Workout:
Elliptical - 1 mile
bicep curls - 3 x12 reps - 30lb dumbell
tricep pull down - 3 x 12reps - 30lbs
Overhead press - 3x12 repos - 25lbs
seated row - 2 x 25 reps - 45lbs
deltoid raise - 3 x 12 reps - 15lbs
situps
stretching - lots of stretching!

The Music:
I went with a shuffle of all the Glee soundtracks I got from a friend. Made the dullness that was my workout bearable!

July 27, 2010 - boring weights and stretching

Today I laid low. As you can see I've done nothing since Friday's 5k, but my hip still hurts and didn't want to aggrevate it. I ran on the treadmill for 5mins and that was enough so then I decided to stretch and do some abs and some small weights. Tomorrow I'm seeing a chiro recommended from a friend who swears by him. So we shall see.

View from the mat:
I've also been a bit nauseated these last couple days, think I'm fighting something, so my focus was primarily not to hurt myself and also not to throw up on myself.

The workout:
5mins on treadmill
stretching
2x 20 pushups - toes
60 crunches , middle, side and side
shoulder press - 3 x 10lbs dumbbells
chest press - 3 x 10lbs dumbbells

July 23, 2010 - rain!

Today I ran just over 5k in about 34mins. It just started to rain as I went out so it kept it feeling cooler than it actually was. Which was good since it's been so hot lately. I ran to Pretoria Bridge and around. Not many people out today. Probably because of the rain.

View from the path:
Nothing that's worth talking about, however, after Tuesday's run my right hip started to hurt. It didn't hurt during the run today but now as I sit down it's sore again. I"ll have to watch it over the next couple days. 7k on Sunday is the goal.

July 22, 2010 - Robbie's bday

Today I did weights on my own. It's been a while! The gym was busy but not too bad. Caught a guy checking me out!!!! yay baby!

View from the mat:
Question - are the weights in kgs or lbs??? I never know. If kgs, then I rock. If in lbs, then I'm no longer as strong as I think I am :(

The Workout:
Deadlift - 3x12 @60lbs
Leg extention - 3 x10 @80lbs
Quads -3x10 @75lbs
Shoulder press - 2x45lbs

July 20th, 2010 - 3.5k

I'd like to say that yesterday was a rest day but I actually did bring my workout bag to work. My lunchtime cohort didn't bring hers however, so I easily backed out as well. But not today! We both went to the gym and did our respective runs. Her's on the treadmill and mine outside along the canal. Last week when it was so hot, there wasn't a soul in site. Today the humidity was gone, and it was a bad case of bob-and-weave.

View from the path:
It's mid-summer and not humid, so lots of tourists were out and about today. Of course they don't get how many runners are in this city so they don't know the etiquette to "get the hell out of the way" when you are coming or take up most of the path as they amble along. Just move already.

The music:
Bring Me to Life - Evanescence
Bohemian Rhapsody - Glee
Poker Face - Lady GaGa
Miracle - Paramore
Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire
Armageddon It - Def Leppard
Abigail - Arkells

July 18, 2010 - and so it starts

The first official long run for the Army Half in September was today. I ran about 6.5km (really only needed to do 5k)and other than the humidity it was good. My running partner was estatic that I was back at it! We ran the path behind the golf course and added a little extra at the end. I thought I'd get up early to go and at 8am when Abby decided to come in and scare me awake, I got dressed, ate a bowl of oatmeal and took off!

View from the path:
Just me and Darty out on the path and, oh yeah, the bugs!!! Next time to remember bug spray!

The Music:
ok, somedays I hate my iPod. I hit the wrong button and because it was on shuffle it erases the playlist. If memory serves, now it's 7pm so it's been a few hours, but I believe there was:
Muse - there were a couple today so not sure what the titles are just the melody and no one wants to hear me sing...LOL
Paramore - That's What You Get and Misery Business
The Killers - White Demon Love Song
Rise Against - Saviour
Against Me - I was a teenage anarchist

and that's all I remember. I only had to forward through one princess song, so that's not too bad!

Next Sunday 7km!

July 15, 2010 - 4k run it was hot hot hot

Ok, where does the time go. It's mid-July already. Abby turns 5 in two weeks and Rob turns 35 next week. There is just not enough time to do all the things I'd prefer to do, but alas I went for my run today...and outdoors. (36 degrees with humidex) 4k and I stayed along the path close to the canal. It was completely in shade and there was a wee bit of breeze, so the heat wasn't too bad. But after yesterdays pump class my legs were a little sore. Completed in roughly 25mins, so not too bad.

July 14, 2010 - body pump

Body pump today was great, the co-teacher was crap! I'm not a whoo whoo girl and I certainly hate being yelled at, so when Kim told us that Tim was helping out the entire class growned. He's obnoxious.

View from the mat:
lots and lots of sweat

tomorrow I sore!

July 12, 2010 - 3.5k run and outside to boot!

Well it's been a while since I've run outside. So as it wasn't as hot as it has been, I gave it a go. I was soaked through by the time I got back to the gym. Just the typical pedestrian bridge run. It just felt good to get out. Now that Rob is back from down under, I have to start really training for my half in the fall. So Sunday's run will be 7km, should be no problem!

View from the path:
I got whistled at today. As I passed a group of workers from the new conference centre, I got the whoo whoo. I didn't see the guy who did it, but still.

The Music:
Had fun today, ran to the Glee soundtrack for the season final, Journey to Regionals. That's right a journey medley featuring Faithfully, Any Way You Want It and Don't Stop Believing. Plus Bohemian Rhapsody, To Sir With Love and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It was exactly the length of my run. My stretch was O Saya from Slumdog Millionaire. fun fun!

July 7, 2010 - body pump

Today was a weights day, so I did body pump. None of the lunch ladies joined me, so I sweated away by myself. Even in the a/c, the elbow sweat was just dripping and that's saying something. I probably left the moisture left in me on the floor of the gym. I know, gross!!

View from the mat:
There were several men in the class, and that's saying something. Nothing spectacular to look at, just there.

The music:
all pump music, but they lunge track was by A-HA, blast from the 80s, the sun always shines on tv!. ah memories!!!

A friend just gave me the first 3 discs from Glee, so upcoming cheesy music in runs/workouts to come!!! looking forward to it

July 6th, 2010 - OMG it's freaking hot

High today 38 degrees, and yes I went to the gym. I decided not to run outdoors, so I took to the treamill. One was open by the windows, so I took it because I like to people watch. However, it was quite the experience. The console was loose and therefore with every step it shook. I had to stop right away b/c I thought I might fall off. It moved quite severely back and forth with each step. I looked to see if another treadmill was available but there wasn't. So I started up again and realized that it wasn't the whole machine just the console and as long as I didn't look at the console, it was really distracting, I would be fine. So I ran 2 miles is 20mins and by the time I was finished the sweat was dripping off me! Felt good after 5 days off.

View from the treadmill:
Other than the trying not to watch the console move back and forth, the people watching on the Sparks street was interesting. Lots of people wearing all black today. Even I wore a black shirt today. What's up with that? Also, lots of teeny tiny tops on women. You would think that being downtown and mostly business/government employees the clothing would be more subdued, well not today. Lots of wild prints, tiny tank tops, etc. The treadmills were also pretty busy today. I guess with the weekend being a long one for Canada day, that everyone needed to get back at it.

The Music:
A Million Miles an Hour - Eastern Conference Finals
Misery Business - Paramore
Go All the Way - Perry Farrell
Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon
That's What you Get - Paramore
Abigail - Arkells
Poker Face - Lady GaGa

I got the new Twilight Eclipse soundtrack, it's awesome!

June 30, 2010 - Pump it up!

I did pump at lunch today and I am going to hurt really really badly tomorrow. On top of yesterday's wicked squat and ab workout, walking might be an issue. But it was a good workout, hadn't done the squats or the lunge track before, lots of pain and bottam halves!

good times!

Tomorrow is Canada Day - yay beer!

Jun 29, 2010 - squats and abs!

Well it's been a few weeks since I did this last, so I should be pretty sore tomorrow. I hope not, but I have a spa day on Saturday that includes at massage, so all is good. The gym was empty today. I guess now that the nice weather is upon us, many feel they no longer need to go to the gym. I am not one of those people!

View from the mat:
To be honest I was just focusing on getting it done. It's a long weekend here, so after tomorrow I'll probably be a sloth until Monday so I was focused on making sure what I did was going to hurt tomorrow.

The Workout:
Squats – 25 reps, no weight;
Abs - 25 crunches
Squats - 25 reps 10lbs ball;
Abs - 25 oblique crunches
Squats - 25 reps 10lbs ball,

June 28, 2010 - humid, so gross

Well today wasn't hot it was freaking humid. Only 25 degrees but with the humidex, something like 32. I got back from my 3.5k run and I was soaked through and through. It was tough tough tough. I'm still recovering from my bike ride on Friday, the tush is still a little sore!

View from the path:
Not many out today. I ran the pedestrian bridge loop. No protestors, hardly any walkers, no students sunning themselves and maybe a couple of runners. Not a lot of people watching. Most stayed indoors which was probably the prudent choice. I, obviously, not one of them! Good run though, took about 3 hours to cool off.

The Music:
Paparazzi - Lady GaGa
Resistance - Muse
Wavin Flag - Artists for Haiti (Abby's new fav song)
Ordinary World - Duran Duran
February Song - Josh Groban
Poker Face - Lady GaGa

June 25, 2010 - bike day Friday!

Well I was back in the saddle this morning, it's amazing what 3 weeks away does to the body. My butt is sore!!! The ride itself was good, but really really humid! Lots of sweat this morning. I tried moving my foot placement on the pedal due to a friend's suggestion. Thanks Christian, no pins and needles today!!! yay.

Once I was downtown, I went to the gym for a shower. As I was getting ready for work I realized I had forgotten a very important piece of clothing. My bra! So not a good thing to forget. Thank god I wore a dark colour shirt b/c my red and white sport tank is now what I'm wearing to keep things locked and loaded. LOL. At least it's friday!

View from the path:
Lots of riders and geese out this morning. The goslings are now almost full grown but still have the baby feathers. They look so strange. They also aren't afraid of anything so you really do have to pay attention because they could walk out on the path without you noticing.

Today is Abby's last day in junior kindergarten. Way to go Abster!!! Love you

June 24, 2010 - the day after the earth moved!

So today wasn't quite as exciting as yesterday. Nothing like an earthquake to put an abrupt halt to your workday, but I'll take it! However, today was monumental. Abby graduated from Junior Kindergarten. I'm just so proud!

View from the path:
On the workout front, I ran 3.5kms and had to bob and weave yet again but this time through the Falun Gong protesters waiting for the president of China to drive by. Police were everywhere and more Asian's lined the canal than I've ever seen. There was even a person in a cage who was gagged and another tied to a chair. It's all very strange. And in this heat.

The Music:
iPod died before I could write them all down, but they were singable tunes today!

June 21, 2010 - first day of summer and 3k

The first day of summer is finally here! Actually it feels like summer has been around for a while with the heat and sunny days we've had. No complaints really. I think we had our a/c on this weekend for the second time this year. I took yesterday off but was back out today. I ran the pedestrian bridge loop from the gym, around 3.5km. I felt pokey but the time would indicate not, so that's a good thing right? I forgot my hat today too, the sun was bright and warm but at least the wind was cool.

View from the path:
I saw a runner's reflection in a building window and thought, wow she needs a new bra. Then I realized it was me. UGH! so don't want to go try on new ones, but it's a necessity! Nothing worse than bouncing all over the place. These are the days I wish I had really small boobs. LOL

The music:
I left my arm band at home, so Carrie graciously gave me hers!

June 19, 2010 - hot and sticky 5k run

Last night was a late night. It was Abby's dance recital. She did awesome! Grandma, Auntie Mere and Uncle Pete came up to watch. We are so proud! Rowan stayed at a friends, so both girls went to bed late. Then around midnight Rowan woke up screaming. Makes for a long night. Once everyone was finally settled I finally got to sleep, but then our visitors are early risers. UGH! So I woke up and put on my running stuff and went for a run. It was the only way I was going to make it through the day. I got outside and realized I'd forgotten my water bottle but with the humidity the water was being absorbed in through my pores. I ran the 5k route behind the golf course with Darty. He was so excited to go. It was a good run despite the humidity and when I got home I was purple and dripping. LOVED IT!

View from the path:
Other than Darty trying to slow me down by running directly in front of me. Just us and the bugs. Lots of them.

June 16, 2010 - Pump

Today I did pump. Tomorrow I will be sore!

View from the mat:
One thing I truly hate about classes is the number they try to jam into the space. There are 30 spots in the pump class and there wasn't enough equipment for everyone, so the instructor gave up her equipment and taught the class using weights not on a bar. You would think that the gym would have enough of everything in the room prior to the class. I actually had to walk around the gym floor to find an extra bar so I could work out. I so could have done my own thing, but I was a bit tired from yesterdays run. So tomorrow I'll be tired and sore! love it!

There was music but nothing to write home about!

June 15, 2010 - 5k along the canal on a beautiful day!

So you might have guessed I didn't run 10k this weekend. There was rain but not enough to even stop me. I was just plain lazy. We also had guests, but again not a good enough reason. After I dropped off the cake, there was really no good excuse to not go out. I just didn't want to. Yesterday my daughter, Abby, pulled a con on the daycare and said she was sick so I left work before I could get to the gym. When I got home, not only was she not sick, she lied to me about why. Gotta love almost 5 year olds. So I took her back to school. Another great opportunity to go for a run and with my running partner who would have loved to have gone, but nope. I sat on the couch and read a book instead. Ah well. At least I'm honest about it.

So today I headed out and felt great at the 3k turn around that I kept on going. It was cool with the breeze and in the shade, but the sun was hot. So instead of crossing at Pretoria Bridge, I went a little farther on Queen Elizabeth and then did an out in back to stay in the shade. I felt great and definately was running faster at the end than at the beginning of the run. 5.39km to be exact in 35mins. So not bad considering I've done nothing since last Friday.

View from the path:
Although I stayed in the shade, the amount of people out was crazy. I had to bob and weave to get around everyone. The run was good despite the diversions. There were also lots of people out in the soccer shirts too. Gotta love the World Cup!!!

June 11, 2010 - 4k really

So it may say Saturday but I did run 4k yesterday. I've been making a wedding cake for a co-worker so time to blog wasn't in the cards.

Darty and I ran to the bank yesteday and it was an ok run. It was just nice to be out. Tomorrow I run a 10k provided we don't get rain. Here's hoping.

Here's the cake, just in case you don't believe me.

Jun 8, 2010 - weights

I'm tired, gotta say! Brought my stuff to work but didn't want to go and then Carrie appeared at my desk and off we went. I had a wicked headache and thought maybe the workout would help...nope. I did weights for back, shoulder and arms with a little abs and stretching. Not a terribly inspiring workout and my headache is still here. Must stick with it!!!

View from the mat:
Hot guy day at the gym!!! So although I wasn't motivated to go, the scenery made the difference! No Jersey boys or tarted up girls, just a couple of really nice looking guys. One was doing his weights whilst balancing on a bosu ball. Impressive! It's still pretty empty at the gym, it must be the spring lull. So at least you don't have to wait for the weights.

The Workout:
Pull ups assisted - 3 x 8 reps @95lbs;
Bent over lat raises - 3 x 12 reps @20lbs;
Overhead lat raises on bench - 3 x 12 reps @20lbs;

June 7, 2010 - Went for a 3k but did 5k instead!!! whoop whoop

So it's my first official run since last week's 10k race. Chasing after my girls doesn't count but is as good a workout as any! My plan was to run 3k but when I got to the pedestrian bridge I felt good so instead of turning left I went straight. It was a little cooler than it's been so it was great running weather. I thought I'd take full advantage and if I couldn't complete, the walking wasn't bad for me either. But I ran the entire 5.3k straight but for a stop at a light and a water fountain break. It felt great to be back at it. Carrie said I'd feel better after I ran, she ran the treadmill today, and you know what... I did! Although we don't workout together, just having someone go with you is great motivation!!!

View from the path:
Convocation week for Ottawa U. It was kind of fun running past the NAC and all the grads from the mornings session out by the canal with their cap, gowns and their diplomas with their respective proud parents and/or boyfriends/girlfriends beaming and taking pictures. I thought to myself, wow that'll be me in maybe 15 years, freaky! There weren't too many people out walking and/or running on the canal today. It was a bit gusty with wind and the wind was chilly. That's the thing about the canal, no matter which way you are running, the wind is always in your face!

Jun 4th, 2010 - Bike Friday!

I left my house this morning in the sunshine. I rode down to Carling and bam, the fog hits and stays pretty thick until Parkdale. It was quite the ride. It's my third straight week and I'm already riding two gears higher than my first ride and feeling good. My legs are still pretty sore from squat day. The extra sumo and jump squats are the culprits, at least my inner thighs would tell me that. so sore. It took a little less than an hour in, so at least I'm becoming consistant. The ride home was so much harder and hotter. It's definately uphill as I am in a lower gear going home. I also have to say my legs burned by the time I hit my driveway. I think I may have to adjust my seat on my bike because my toes keep going numb. If anyone can tell me why, that would be great. All in all, not a bad bike. 42km baby!!!

View from the path/road:
Leaving a half an hour later and there are a lot more bikes on the paths. I actually passed a couple even though I was passed and felt i was standing still. The Canadian Geese are out in full force too, with all their goslings. They like to stand in the middle of the path. I slow down, but there are some who fly through them. My luck, I'd hit one and then I'd end up impalling myself. No thank you.

The Music:
Again too many to list but a nice surprise (my iPod is filling the space with random songs from our library) and I got Limp Bizkit - Take a Look Around, Loved it!!!
